A fresh round of updates is rolling out now on both iPhone and Android. Update from the App Store or Google Play to get them.
This one’s all about polish and control — getting your routes out of HiiKER in whatever format you need, keeping the app usable in your pocket, and making the map feel smoother wherever you are. Here’s what’s new.
📦 Export your routes, your way
There’s a new export picker so you can save any hike or recording as GPX, Garmin GPX, KML or GeoJSON — ready for your GPS device, another app, or your own records. Exports now also get clean, date-prefixed filenames so they sort neatly and are easy to find later. On both iPhone and Android.

🔒 Lock the screen on the trail
A new “Disable touch screen” toggle in the map info-bar settings stops accidental taps while you’re navigating — perfect for rain, gloves, or a phone that’s riding in your pocket. Available on both platforms.

🗺️ Smoother 3D previews
The route-framing flyover in the 3D preview is smoother than ever — the marker now stays centred on screen and glides along the route even at high speed, on both iPhone and Android.
✅ Completed hikes, refined
Following completed-hike tracking, the Completed Hikes screen now has filters so you can slice through the trails you’ve finished, plus a tidier completion-date picker on Android.

📡 Better offline (Android)
- Screens now show cached content when you’re offline instead of going blank.
- Precached photos render correctly in full-screen gallery view.
- A stalled download is never auto-cancelled — it retries quietly in the background.
- Clearing the cache no longer leaves behind orphaned downloads.
📱 iPhone extras
- A dedicated Update Email screen in Edit Profile.
- The whole static map image on hike & recording overviews is now tappable.
- Wider zoom range on Apple Watch maps.

🤖 Android extras
- The recording notification keeps your live remaining distance & time updating even when the app is in the background.
- Auto-restore for recordings — an interrupted recording comes back automatically, and only prompts you if it’s gone stale.
- Zoom-reactive distance markers — distance labels along your route thin out and fill in as you zoom, so the map never feels cluttered.
- Android Auto pairing now uses a driving-safe screen that stays disabled while you’re moving.
- Fixed hike-overview driving directions that were pointing at the region centre instead of the trailhead.
- In the planner, Reverse route no longer discards imported GPX geometry.
🧭 Little touches
- Compass mode is kept when you tap the map to go full screen.
- A new info icon on the Customise route style header links straight to a help article.
- Smoother Hike Highlights sheet on Android — sticky header and correct scrolling.
🐛 Fixes & polish
Plus a wave of stability work: a launch crash fix after a big under-the-hood upgrade, fewer false “off-route” warnings, smaller map crashes squashed, and small visual tidy-ups across both apps.
As always, this update is shaped by your feedback — keep it coming. Happy hiking! ⛰️
