What’s New in HiiKER: 3D Flyovers, a Redesigned Map & GPX for Recordings — 27 July 2026

HiiKER What's New banner for 27 July 2026 on iOS and Android, listing 3D Flyovers, a redesigned map screen and GPX for your recordings, beside phone screens showing a 3D flyover of a Himalayan trail with distance, elevation and grade

This update is rolling out now on iPhone, Apple Watch and Android. Update from the App Store or Google Play to get it.

We’ve just shipped one of our biggest updates yet — built around three things hikers ask us for most: a richer way to relive your hikes, a cleaner map, and better GPX support. Here’s everything that’s new.

🎬 Relive your hikes with 3D Flyovers

You can now watch a 3D Flyover of any hike or recording — a cinematic fly-through of the whole route, every ridge and switchback seen from the sky. When you find a view you love, share the flyover video with friends. Your flyovers are gathered in a new My Flyovers collection, and thumbnails now appear right on your recording overviews.

🗺️ A redesigned map screen

The map has a cleaner new layout. A tidy info bar brings together search, a compass and three configurable slots, with dedicated Maps and Options buttons so everything you need is a single tap away.

🛰️ A new Lidar map style

There’s a brand-new Lidar map style, too. Built from high-resolution laser-scanned elevation data, it reveals the true shape of the ground — the subtle ridges, gullies, terraces and hollows that ordinary maps smooth over. Switch to it any time from Maps.

📍 Keep an eye on your recording (iPhone)

An active recording now appears on your Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island, so you can check your time, distance and elevation at a glance — and pause — without unlocking your phone.

🤏 Minimise a recording and keep exploring

You can now minimise a full-screen recording and carry on browsing the map while it keeps tracking in the background — handy for checking a hike or planning your next turn without stopping.

🧭 GPX for your recordings

Recordings now work with GPX: export a recording (even mid-hike) or import a GPX file as a guide route to follow along. And if an import doesn’t work, HiiKER now tells you exactly why rather than leaving you guessing. Your file’s own elevation is kept even when our elevation service is unreachable.

🏷️ Handy new touches

  • Custom hike tags — organise hikes your way and find your favourites faster.
  • Download a whole hike list for offline in a single tap.
  • DMS coordinates now work in search and Go To Location.
  • A new “Disable touch screen” quick action for pocket-proof adventures.
  • Live Locator finishing times now stretch to 24, 48 and 72 hours.

🐛 Fixes & polish

  • Steadier map and route lines while planning and recording.
  • Smoother sharing, tidier menus, and clearer download states.
  • Photos you add to an offline recording are no longer lost when it syncs.
  • Squashed a few rare crashes, including one when saving Apple Health routes (iPhone).

As always, this update is shaped by your feedback — keep it coming. Happy hiking! ⛰️
