Android or iPhone — same maps, different front door
What you get on the car screen is the same on both platforms. How you get to it isn’t:
- 🤖 On Android, DRiiVER is its own app. You install it from Google Play alongside HiiKER, and it appears on your car’s display through Android Auto. Two apps, one HiiKER account.
- 🍎 On iPhone, it’s built into HiiKER. Nothing extra to install and nothing extra to sign into — connect to CarPlay and HiiKER is already there on the dashboard, alongside Maps and Music.
The reason is practical: Android Auto apps go through their own separate Play Store review, so keeping the car surface in its own binary means car work never holds up a HiiKER release. CarPlay doesn’t work that way, so on iPhone it simply lives inside the app you already have. Either way, it’s the same account, the same saved hikes and the same maps.

🗺️ The maps you already trust
This is the part that makes DRiiVER different from every other app on your dashboard. Most car navigation gives you a road map or an aerial photo. DRiiVER gives you the real survey mapping — Ordnance Survey across Great Britain, EastWest Mapping in Ireland, and national mapping elsewhere. Contours, field boundaries, forest tracks, named townlands, rights of way.
It matters most at the end of the drive. A road map stops at the last public road; survey mapping keeps going, so you can see the forest track, the gate and the parking spot before you get there.
Standard, Satellite and Parks are free for everyone. Hiking, National and Historic maps come with PRO+, the same as on your phone. You pick the style right on the car screen.

DRiiVER works out the drive and shows you the distance and time before you set off.
Then it’s turn-by-turn the whole way, with the map following you as you drive.
This is navigation to the trail, not on it. Car routing follows roads, so the car screen hands over at the trailhead — which is exactly where the HiiKER app takes it up.
Getting started on Android
Install DRiiVER, open it on your phone, and sign in with your existing HiiKER account — it’s the same account across both apps.
Then connect your phone to your car and open DRiiVER on the car’s display. There’s no code to type into the car — if you’re signed in on the phone, the car picks it up automatically.

Getting started on iPhone
There’s nothing to download. Make sure you’re on an up-to-date HiiKER, plug in — or connect wirelessly if your car does that — and HiiKER appears on the CarPlay home screen. No pairing step, no second sign-in: the car shares the session on your phone.
